Tooth Fairy

We had a very unexpected occurrence this morning at our house......Mr.G (my 4 year old!) lost his first tooth. To say I was unprepared for this was an understatement. My first thought was, "What! Where did it go? I thought we had a few more years before this happened!"  Given the fact that I thought we had plenty to time to talk about this, it is safe to say that we had never discussed with G that teeth fall out, all about the tooth fairy, etc. Looking back on how the whole thing went down, I am pretty sure he thought he had done something wrong and should hide the evidence quickly! He had been in the playroom this morning playing by himself. He said that his tooth was really wiggly so he kept wiggling it until it came out. He then took the evidence (the tooth) and put it in the best hiding space a 4 year old could come up with-the garbage can. When he came in to talk with Daddy, Daddy noticed there was a big gaping spot in his mouth. Next was a flurry of Mommy and Daddy trying to figure out what happened and then digging through the trash to find the precious first tooth-which we did! So we did the best we could to quickly fill him in teeth falling out, who the tooth fairy is, and the fact that you get money! I did call the dentist and talk with them about the fact that he is 4 and I felt like this was really early. They asked if he was an early teether as an infant (yes, first tooth at 4 months) and then said that he would probably just start losing his teeth earlier as a result of that. So there we have it-one more reason for me to feel like my boys are growing up way too fast!
